I am running 80km on the Lilydale-Warburton Rail Trail on Saturday 28 November 2026 to raise funds for Eastern Palliative Care Ltd because EPC staff cared for my grandmother and provided palliative care guidance and support, especially during 2022 when her health deteriorated. It gave my family reassurance and comfort during a challenging time. They provided regular meetings with palliative support clinicians who would keep an eye on my grandma and provided additional assistance with strategies and help that was required. They also provided access to a 24 hour on-call service, to assist with guidance when we were not sure what to do.

People often focus on charities that are for preventative measures which is amazing but unfortunately the end of life stage can be overlooked. I think it is so important in that final life stage to be able to make someone comfortable and offer the families a chance to see their loved one taken care of.

The difference EPC has made to so many people is just extraordinary and I know there are so many others that would benefit from their assistance. But they need more funding, as government funding doesn't cover all of their costs, to make that happen.
